Radiation-emitting product records: where inspection preparation starts

Begin a radiation-product records review with the exact product, intended use, model, and applicable framework. Electronic-product radiation controls and medical-device obligations can overlap, but they are not interchangeable.

Identify the product-specific requirements

FDA directs manufacturers to the product-based reporting and record requirements in 21 CFR 1002.1. Determine which requirements apply to the actual product before assembling a generic packet. A submission route for radiation-product reports should not be assumed to handle unrelated device submissions.

Trace a model and its changes

A practical preparation exercise follows model identity, configuration, relevant testing evidence, labels, reports, and changes. Identify the responsible person and the record supporting each conclusion. Do not infer a product’s compliance from an acknowledgement number or an unverified marketing statement.

Prepare the handoffs

Coordinate technical, quality, regulatory, and relevant supplier information. For a changed component or model, ask what was evaluated, which evidence remains applicable, and which reporting questions need to be resolved. This is a proposed review method, not a prescribed test protocol.
